Weather Spotter Training to be held in Virginia City!

Weather Spotter Training Class

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Reno will be hosting a weather spotter class in conjunction with the Storey County Office of Emergency Management. Weather Spotters are volunteers who serve as the eyes and ears of the National Weather Service. Even with the extensive tools of modern technology such as Doppler radar, satellites, web cameras, and surface observations, there are still wide gaps in information in what is actually happening on the ground, especially in remote areas and small towns. Your reports directly help in saving life and property.

The class will be held:

Wednesday, July 8^th, 2009 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Virginia City Fire Department Training Building

145 North C Street

Virginia City, Nevada

The class will cover topics including how to identify severe thunderstorm and tornado signatures, how to measure snowfall, and what to report when it comes to windstorms, winter storms, and flooding. The class will begin at 6:30 pm and end around 8:00 pm, with a period of time for questions until 8:30 pm.
