As Storey County Emergency Management Director, Joe Curtis coordinates all aspects of the planning for both man-made and natural disasters that may strike the County. Planning of county emergency exercises, public awareness outreach and training of both private and public sectors. He serves as the Chair for the Local Emergency Planning Committee and has served on several State level committees relating to earthquakes and hazard mitigation planning. He represents Storey County on Emergency Management and Homeland Security concerns in dealing with the State Division of Emergency Mgmt. He began serving in Emergency Mgmt. functions for Storey County in 1999 and serves now as Director.

Joe Curtis was raised in Carson City and has resided in Virginia City since 1976 after serving four years in the US Army. He then began serving with the Carson City Sheriff's Department as a Deputy and retiring as Assistant Sheriff in 1995. He was involved with Carson City emergency planning dealing with natural and man-made disasters. He has been serving with the Volunteer Fire Service for 40 years serving as a Storey County Volunteer Fire Chief for over 30 years. He has a degree in Criminal Justice and is a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers.
