Water Quality

The Storey County Water and Sewer Systems Division strives to provide the highest quality drinking water possible to the citizens, businesses and visitors.

About Water Quality
Water quality is the term used to describe the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of water. The quality of any water supply depends on the surrounding natural landscape, such as geology, soils, climate and atmospheric conditions, as well as human activities with regard to the land.

Storey County obtains its water from Marlette Lake and Hobart Dam, which are both located on the eastern rim of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Tests are run regularly on a monthly and quarterly basis to ensure the highest quality standards.

Annual water quality reports (PDF) are produced each year and made available to the public.

Storey County is proud to be voted “Best tasting water in Nevada” for 2003 and 2007 by the National Rural Water Association.
